Video Description:
On February 24th, 2004 President George W. Bush announced his support for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Three days later in response to the President's words and inspired by events in Massachusetts, Village of New Paltz Mayor, Jason West, began solemnizing same-sex marriages in Upstate NY. Will & Right takes a deeper look into those fighting for equality and the effects it has on individuals, family values and the nation.
During the course of shooting this film we were able to meet so many interesting people; People working very hard to gain the same rights and freedoms that other Americans have. Actor/Activist Harvey Fierstein provided an interview as only he can, and many couples welcomed us into their homes to film first hand family life for gay/lesbian couples. Part of the film also captures history in the making as we document the 1st gay marriages in NY State at the Village of New Paltz, cover protests, speakers and the 2004 Pride Parade in NYC.
As religion takes a stronger role in American politics I think it is important that people get to see first hand how factoring prejudice into the US Constitution can effect real people, with real families and real love.

Why can't religion and homosexuality co-exist. Gay's are the one's provoking this. Religious people carved out thier socail territory a long time ago.I agree The term marriage isn't explicitly religious. But it is our pholosophy and belief that which truly matters when one interprets the word marraige. It's unfortunate that gay folks have attacked the mere word straight, believer's in god use to praise or holy matrimony.The gay community is lacking respect for my way of life.Civil union is fine

I don't mind gay people as long as they dont effect the my moral institutions. Why dont gays establish they're own socail and religious institutions. Let me say this, and I don't think I'm alone in this when I say gay marriage depletes any and all merrit I have for the sanctity of marriage.This movement the gay community is making on marriage will create alot of animosity among straights and gays. Church shouldn't interfere with Government and Government shouldn't interfere with the church. The Government has gone as far as the constitution allows them, "legally"speaking. and let's face it the only reason big brother even keeps mairage records on file is for the sake of debt collection and custody battles.If you let Gov't into church then the church should be allowed to medal in Gov't affairs. No, see the founders based this nation on freedom of and from religion, that the law would be free from bias and prejudice. No, those who made prop 8 overstepped greatly when they put rights up to vote.
